What Is Something You’re Really Good At?
When I used to read this question, my first response was always to consider performative measures of what I was good at, things like writing or dancing. I was answering this question in a way that was more of a means to deliver things I did, as opposed to things I lived out that I was good at. But what you’re good at doesn’t have to be talents or performances. They can be things that keep you balanced, remind you of your value, or keep you healthy.
For me, something I’m good at is moving forward. Moving forward has allowed me to take my lessons and use them as tools for my future. Moving forward has reminded me of my value as a person as I make decisions that align with who I want to be. Moving forward has redirected me to make healthier changes in my life. Staying still and repeating things in my life that I had outgrown kept me from utilizing the time right in front of me to experience growth. When I decided on the dreams I created for myself, I knew that moving forward was my best choice, so I became good at it.
To say you’re good at something, doesn’t take away from the challenges that come with it. But the thing is when you know that something is keeping you from your dream, you do what it takes to move the barriers. My barrier was staying still, living in wishful thinking, and not taking action for the fear of not being good. When I discovered that all of those things were just thoughts, and I could make the decision to put the thoughts aside and take the action of moving forward that’s when I saw my changes. When you’re moving forward it doesn’t have to be leaps and miles of movement, it just needs to be consistent. Because over time, you’ll be able to look back at the momentum you’ve built to see all you’ve built for yourself.
There are days when moving forward can mean rest, which can feel stagnant. But consistent movement toward something will require breaks. When you’re really good at something it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s something easy. Being good at something is having the strength to continue doing it even when it’s hard. You can be good at so many things outside of physical acts, there are things you do as a person that you’re good at. Being good at something is driven by effort and choosing to do it on the tough days.
